Where strategic vision
meets applied innovation.
I believe in a digital future where trust is an infrastructure and innovation creates tangible opportunities for people, businesses and regions.
Artificial intelligence, blockchain and digital identity realise their value when supported by skills, shared rules and responsible governance. That is why I work to connect technology, business and public policy, promoting trustworthy, interoperable and inclusive ecosystems.
I am Giampiero Zito, founder and CEO of Mediterraneo Lab 4.0, an entrepreneur and an Innovation Manager listed in the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) register. Following a scholarship and experience working at the European institutions, I have supported businesses and organisations in their digital transformation since 2011, combining digital maturity assessment, strategy and partnership development. My background in international trade brings a perspective focused on markets and cooperation between regions.
I worked for Sistemi Formativi Confindustria, supporting Digital Innovation Hubs in assessing the Digital Maturity Index of SMEs and defining pathways for the digital and sustainable transition. This experience strengthened my approach: starting with businesses’ needs and capabilities to turn technological opportunities into tangible results.
My work covers trustworthy AI, digital identity and credentials, lifelong learning and data governance, with applications in education, employment and healthcare. I am co-inventor of the patent underpinning Workers Badge and the creator of the AI Mentor concept, helping people gain recognition for their skills and build on them throughout their careers.
I was selected as an expert in the European Commission-funded BlockStand and StandICT projects, contributing to international ICT standardisation. I participate in the work of UNINFO/UNI CT 532 and ISO/TC 307, promoting a proposal on micro-credentials for workforce development. I also contributed as an expert to the “EU Critical Digital Technologies Studies” for the European Commission’s DG CNECT.
I contribute to the European DIGITAL SME Alliance’s activities on digitalisation and e-health and coordinate a working group for the Italian National Agrifood Cluster CL.A.N. on innovation and sustainability from a Society 5.0 perspective.
Alongside consulting, I engage in teaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing. In 2023, I received the America Innovation Award from the Italy–USA Foundation.
